Airways New Zealand has announced it will host the 2016 Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO) Asia Pacific conference in Queenstown.
The conference is the air traffic management industry's largest and most important event for air navigation service providers (ANSPs) in the Asia Pacific region.
Airways CEO and Global Board member of CANSO, Ed Sims says he is delighted that Airways and New Zealand have been chosen to host the conference, to be held in May 2016.
"Picturesque Queenstown is the ideal place for us to host the conference. In 2012 we introduced Performance Based Navigation procedures into the resort town, and our award-winning work has doubled the number of flights into Queenstown, reduced delays and diversions, and delivered a safer and more efficient air traffic management system," Mr Sims says.
"In Queenstown we now have one of the most sophisticated air navigation control systems in the world, and this is just one of many ways Airways is demonstrating global leadership in the aviation industry."
Mr Sims says Airways delivered $15.5m in fuel savings to its airline customers in the 12 months to end March.
"We’ll be proud to share our knowledge about PBN implementation and other Airways developments such as our world-leading work implementing ADS-B and MLAT around southern parts of New Zealand, with CANSO APAC delegates in May 2016," Mr Sims says.
"And, when delegates fly in to Queenstown through those mountains next year, we hope they'll be equally impressed by the scenery as well as our capability in landing them safely," he concludes.
The CANSO Asia Pacific conference will attract ANSP CEOs, directors, and senior managers from throughout the region and beyond, as well as international partners such as the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and leading industry suppliers like Boeing and Airbus.
