Airways New Zealand has this week launched a partnership with the Inter American University of Puerto Rico (UIPR) for the establishment of Puerto Rico’s first international Air Traffic Control training centre.
Sharon Cooke, Airways Head of Training, said that the joint venture will see Airways providing ATC ab-initio, ATS operations and air traffic management programmes at the university.
“We are delighted to be working with an organisation as prestigious as UIPR,” she said. “This partnership allows us to incorporate our recognised and successful training methodologies into Puerto Rico.”
“Our track-record in the provision of world-class Air Traffic Control training and technologies, combined with UIPR’s wider aviation portfolio and educational leadership in the region, sees this partnership well placed for success,” said Ms Cooke.
Professor Juan F. Martinez, Chancellor of the Bayamon Campus of Inter-American University of Puerto Rico explained that Airways will provide its renowned Total Control simulators at the new International Air Traffic Control Training Centre. “These new simulators will provide realism and three-dimensional high-definition graphics as well as full emulation of the local airspace," said the Chancellor.
UIPR is one of the largest private universities in the Western Hemisphere, with a dedicated School of Aeronautics as part of its Bayamón campus. Its School of Aeronautics is dedicated to training professionals for the aviation industry, airport management and airlines.
Airways will provide a full ATC training solution for UIPR, including management and operation of the training facility, teaching resources, aerodrome and radar simulators, training support and quality assurance systems.
Courses will commence next month.
