The first stage in Airways’ Service and Pricing Framework Review was launched today with the start of the customer consultation process.
Airways Chief Executive Ed Sims said the Service and Pricing Framework Review will clarify the services Airways offers, determine who should pay for those services and establish a transparent pricing structure. It is divided into separate service and pricing work streams.
“This is one of the largest consultation and review projects we’ve ever undertaken and it will shape the way we do business now and into the future. We are committed to ensuring our stakeholders in New Zealand’s aviation industry are well informed of the proposals and are given every opportunity to influence the outcome of the final Frameworks,” said Mr Sims.
As New Zealand’s sole air navigation service provider (ANSP), Airways is responsible for NZ’s 30 million sq kilometres of airspace, providing air traffic control, surveillance, communication, flight inspection, mapping and airspace design services.
Mr Sims said the Service and Pricing Framework Review was principles based and was not about pricing levels.
“Airways is committed to its current pricing arrangements until June 2013. This project is about responding to changes in the global economic climate and New Zealand’s aviation industry where higher fuel prices and impending technology changes are having an impact. The review is about ensuring our Service and Pricing Frameworks are appropriate to the changed environment and that we are well positioned to continue to provide world-class services within this environment.”
The Service and Pricing Framework Review will also deliver clarity, transparency and consistency to customers and outline the appropriate levels of services at airports and aerodromes around New Zealand, he added.
The draft Service Framework and Pricing Discussion Document was presented at a series of industry meetings last week; a series of national roadshows/workshops will be held in January/February to enable stakeholders to provide feedback and help shape the final Pricing Framework.
