Experienced business leader Judy Kirk ONZM has been appointed Chair of the Board of Airways New Zealand, the country’s air navigation services provider announced today.
She will take over from current Chair Susan Paterson on 1 November. Susan Paterson joined the Airways board in 1996 and has been Chair since 2005.
Airways CEO Ed Sims says Susan Paterson’s broad governance capability has been an invaluable asset in enabling Airways’ growth.
“Susan’s experience across a range of industries and competitive business environments coupled with her experience of running her own business have given Airways a greater commercial and customer focus,” he says.
Judy Kirk joined the board in February this year, and brings with her an extensive background in the business and governance arena. She is also the Chair of Lotto NZ, Deputy Chair of Metservice NZ and is a member of the Institute of Directors. Previously Judy Kirk was the President of the New Zealand National Party for seven years and was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2011 for services to the community.
Mr Sims says Judy Kirk’s experience with organisations that have successfully grown their international revenue through locally developed IP exports will be a significant asset to Airways.
He says, “The opportunity with rapidly developing technology in this industry here and globally is both challenging and promising. Judy is well placed to ensure Airways’ robust governance as it achieve its future goals in this space, and I look forward to working with her.”
Judy Kirk adds: “Airways is a high performing state owned enterprise, as reflected by its strong operational and financial performance over the past year. I’m delighted to be playing a part in continuing this success as well seeing that Airways makes the most of burgeoning opportunities.”
Judy Kirk will commence her role as Chair on November 1, 2016.
